The Government of Alberta’s Water for Life strategy celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Focusing on knowledge and research, partnerships and water conservation, Water for Life empowers stewards to care for our waters. This strategy acknowledges the importance of our watersheds in sustaining life in our province.

Since 2006, funding from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas through Water for Life has supported the Watershed Stewardship Grant Program (WSG). Through the WSG, community stewardship groups have received much-needed resources for projects that enhance, protect and restore water across Alberta – ranging from educational projects to flood mitigation efforts to water quality research and state of the watershed reports. More than 180 groups, from communities across Alberta, have received more than $2,500,000 to deliver 360+ projects that help ensure a safe, secure drinking water supply, healthy aquatic ecosystems and reliable, quality water supplies for a sustainable economy. Check out the WSG StoryMap to learn more.
