Special Creative Sentencing Watershed Stewardship Grant Announced
When the primary funding for the Watershed Stewardship Grant program was cancelled earlier this year, Land Stewardship Centre (LSC) committed to exploring ways to access new sources of funding that could be used to support the valuable work of Watershed Stewardship Groups.
As a part of this commitment we are pleased to announce we have secured $35,000 in creative sentencing funds from the provincial government, and we are now making these funds available to eligible applicants through our Watershed Stewardship Grant (WSG) program. Creative sentencing funds come from penalties administered by the Alberta court as a result of infractions under the Water Act.
To be eligible for this funding, applicants’ projects must focus on activities that protect, improve or restore aquatic and riparian habitat in the province. Eligible projects may include riparian naturalization, fish habitat enhancement and wetland restoration.
This single opportunity grant is different than past grant rounds. Some of the changes include:
- Applicants may apply for up to $35,000 for their project
- New reporting requirements – project “check-ins” are required in April and July
- Before, during and after photos of the project must be submitted
- Changes to eligible expenses as outlined in the application document
- Final report must be submitted by October 31, 2017
Applications for this creative sentencing grant will be accepted until 4:30 PM MST on December 16, 2016.
