Calling All Citizen Scientists

You are invited to attend a citizen science (also known as “public participation in scientific research” or PPSR) conference on September 9 and 10, 2014, hosted by the Miistakis Institute in partnership with the Under Western Skies conference at Mount Royal University (MRU) in Calgary.

The Exploring the PPSR Landscape Under a Western Sky conference has a goal to stimulate communication, collaboration and innovation in the field of citizen science in western Canada.

There are a number of exciting theme areas designed to help you learn about the practice of citizen science. Check out some of their exciting guest presenters:

  • Tina Phillips, Cornell University, Evaluating the Conservation Potential of Citizen Science: Emerging principles and practices for the 21st century.
  • Dr. Rod Dobell, University of Victoria, Digital Fishers: Science-oriented crowdsourcing and participatory public policy.
  • Julie Vastine, Alliance for Aquatic Resources Monitoring (ALLARM), Dickinson College Volunteer Stream Monitoring: A tool for change.
  • Dr. Stuart Lynn, Adler, Planetarium, Chicago, IL, The Zooniverse, the challenges of building an online platform for citizen science.
