The Wild Woods

As young Jess is out for a walk with her grandfather, she follows a squirrel she would like to take home. Through the wild wods, up a hill, across a creek, Grandad follows Jess. He cautions her all along the way about the difficulties of keeping a squirrel as a pet. But, as it turns out, Jess doesn’t need any help to come to her decision – one that will please girl, grandfather and squirrel alike.
The sun-dappled watercolor illustrations celebrate the tranquil beauty of the forest and the joys of observing animals in a natural habitat.
Young children explore their interactions with nature; caring and the limits of that caring.
