Special Creative Sentencing Funding Announced

Posted November 2, 2016 by LSC

When the primary funding for the Watershed Stewardship Grant program was cancelled earlier this year, Land Stewardship Centre (LSC) committed to exploring ways to access new sources of funding that could be used to support the valuable work of Watershed Stewardship Groups.

Great News!

As a part of this commitment we are pleased to announce we have secured $35,000 in creative sentencing funds from the provincial government, and we are now making these funds available to eligible applicants through our Watershed Stewardship Grant (WSG) program. Creative sentencing funds come from penalties administered by the Alberta court as a result of infractions under the Water Act.

To be eligible for this funding, applicants’ projects must focus on activities that protect, improve or restore aquatic and riparian habitat in the province. Eligible projects may include riparian naturalization, fish habitat enhancement and wetland restoration.

Stewardship groups can apply for up to $35,000, the total amount available under this special grant round. Applications for this creative sentencing grant will be accepted until 4:30 PM MST on December 16, 2016.

Thank you to everyone who has voted for us so far! If you haven’t voted yet, we hope you still will.

Over the years, the Aviva Community Fund has donated over $6.5 million in project funding to deserving charities across Canada who have an idea to create positive change within their local community.

This year, Land Stewardship Centre is participating in the Aviva Community Fund competition – and we could sure use your support.

About our project

Assistance from the Aviva Community Fund would enable Land Stewardship Centre, the long-time tenant and caretaker of the culturally significant Imrie House, to transform the building’s garage into an amazing meeting space that community groups and other non-profit organizations will be able to access.

Why it matters

Imrie House, surrounded by nature and overlooking the North Saskatchewan River, is a unique and beautiful place and we want the broader community to be able to experience and benefit from this hidden gem. Non-profits, volunteer community groups and individuals alike will be welcome to utilize the new Imrie House meeting space for meetings, workshops, field trips, art classes and more.

We can’t do it without you

We need your help. The application with the most votes will make it to the Aviva Community Fund finalists round. All you need to do is cast your vote between October 11–28. You can vote up to 18 times for a single project.

Your vote matters
