  • Land Stewardship Centre of Canada has posted a Reference Guide for an Ecological Agriculture Course - pdf. This publication was prepared by Land Stewardship Centre of Canada and LandWise Inc. This manual has been designed as a reference companion to a short-course on application of ecological principles to sustainable agriculture in Alberta.

  • Strengthening Stewardship: National Stewardship & Conservation Conference 2009 (July 8-11, 2009 in Calgary, Alberta): Conference a great success! Approximately 400 people participated from across Canada and internationally, including First Nations and Métis, conservation organizations, individual stewards, all levels of government, industry and media.   • How to influence the future course of Conservation and Stewardship in Canada: provide your input on the national State of Stewardship recommendations before July 31! The State of Stewardship in Canada report was specially prepared for the National Stewardship & Conservation Conference 2009 and includes six recommended areas for priority investment in Stewardship (the definition of stewardship, measurable targets, credible economic analysis, integration, funding, and a national task force). All those across Canada interested in the future of stewardship programming in Canada are invited to provide feedback on these before July 31! Feedback includes the opportunity to comment on all or particular recommendations, to suggest related actions, priorities, and indicate the level of agency or personal support towards implementation of a particular recommendation. Land Stewardship Centre of Canada will collate responses to the State of Stewardship report on behalf of the conference steering committee and all the feedback will guide the direction of the Strategic Stewardship Road map for Canada, another major outcome of the conference.   • Land Stewardship Centre of Canada receives Countryside Canada Award 2009! Board Director Pamela Wight received the award on behalf of the Centre on July 11 at the 2009 National Stewardship & Conservation Conference in Calgary. The award recognized the exceptional stewardship efforts of the organization. Ernie Ewaschuk, former Executive Director and one of the founding members of the Centre, also received an award in recognition of his career and landowner activities as a lifelong proponent of stewardship.   • Conservation Land Registry is now online! Land Stewardship Centre of Canada developed this special Alberta-based registry to provide a database search service for natural resource companies to meet their requirements for development. Subscribers can request searches of specific quarter sections by legal land description to determine any conservation projects, agreements, or other notations on that quarter. Learn more here!

  • Land Stewardship Centre of Canada is proud to present its newest publication: The Green Communities Guide. The Green Communities Guide will be an essential tool to help elected officials, municipal planners, developers, real estate associations, stewardship groups and citizens develop strategies to conserve water, protect water quality, conserve valuable agricultural land, and protect critical open space and wildlife habitat.   • Zerofootprint Edmonton, the City of Edmonton’s environmental footprint calculator. The calculator allows citizens to measure their environmental footprint, and it gives them the opportunity to make pledges to reduce it. The calculator is designed to support the City Council's EcoVision campaign, which asks citizens to reduce their environmental footprint through five simple steps: travel smart, be yard smart, save energy and water, and reduce waste.

  • There's still time to nominate a heritage tree! The vision of the Alberta Heritage Tree Project is "to gather and record information about unique trees; to help identify and locate them and to protect them as much as possible." Find out more about Alberta's heritage trees, click here.

  • The Alberta Stewardship Network is pleased to announce that its newest publication, "Awareness to Action: A Showcase of Environmental Stewardship in Alberta," is now available! This booklet profiles 15 amazing community stewardship groups that have been involved in a variety of inspiring environmental projects - from water quality monitoring to tree planting to hosting public information sessions. Each profile includes information on the group, their project, costs, sources of funding, and the challenges they overcame, with the hope that these ‘lessons learned’ will benefit and inspire people looking for help with similar projects.
